Bill of Sale Arkansas

Do you think it’s finally time to sell that old car or boat that hasn’t been doing much lately? Besides extra cash in the bank, you may finally get capital for that lucrative investment you’ve been eyeing. Sounds like a cool deal, right?

How about straightening things out first: making sure that the sale is recorded in the right documents and the final transfer process handled well? All you need is a bill of sale for proof of sale/ purchase and the transfer of ownership.

A bill of sale also called a BOS, or the proof of sale refers to a legally binding document that transfers the ownership of property from a seller to a buyer. Once signed, bill of sale can be used in the court of law to prove that the ownership of the asset in question exchanged hands. So, a seller cannot claim ownership of the property later on, as long as they sign away their rights to the ownership of that item.

Like every other state, you can get the document processed and legalized after you fill out a form detailing your needs. In this case, you fill out our free Arkansas bill of sale form. The document is either typed out or handwritten.

The state of Arkansas requires that you double check the details of the BOS to ensure that that the details required are all filled and that it’s signed and dated by the parties involved. Keep extra copies of the signed and finalized BOS for your records and protection of your property.

Like every other legal document, the conditions and circumstances change, and every item involved treated differently. So, which are the main types of bill of sale in Arkansas has in store for you?

Arkansas Motor Vehicle BOS

In the state Arkansas and under the Arkansas Office of Motor Vehicles Division (AR OMV), a bill of sale for motor vehicles refers to a legal document which records in detail the transactions involved in the transfer of personal property. Under the OMV, personal property refers to motor vehicles. And like several other states, the BOS is not a replacement of the title transfer but a legally recognized document which proves that the transaction involving that motor vehicle took place. So, even with the BOS, you still have to complete the process and fill out the documents to facilitate title transfer whenever a vehicle is sold between two parties. The motor vehicle BOS has the details of the buyer buying the vehicle from a seller.

Conditions for the motor vehicle BOS in the state of Arkansas

While the AR OMV will accept a filled out title instead of a BOS, the free bill of sale form in Arkansas is necessary when you wish to apply for sales tax credit or, if as the buyer, the current title by the seller doesn’t have any room for the seller to sign the vehicle over to you.

Wondering where to get a legitimate BOS for the sale of your car? Well, the state of Arkansas protects its statesmen by issuing a state-approved and a printable BOS.

  • However, whether you use the BOS or the back of a title for transfer of ownership, you need to ensure that the signed document contains:

    • The name, addresses, or signatures of the buyer and the seller

    • Vehicle’s identification number (VIN)

    • Date of the sale

    • The price paid by the buyer

    • Odometer’s readings if the vehicle is less than 10 years old. The readings should be accurate, and in case the readings exceed the mechanical limits, then this should be disclosed.

    • Other descriptions for the vehicle include any secondary code, the primary color of the car, and the business name and address (if the seller is a business).

Arkansas BOS for Boats

For the sale of your boat, the BOS should have information about the buyer and the seller (name, addresses, and signatures). The state of Arkansas also requires that the document has details of the boat such as the length, make and year, hull ID, odometer readings in hours, and the registration number. It should also have the title number and state whether the boat comes with a trailer or not. And if there is an outboard motor included, it should be indicated in the BOS: this includes the motor’s year, make and the horsepower.

Arkansas BOS for Guns

Like the BOS for boats and motor vehicles, the one used to process the sale of guns should have signatures and the basic information of the buyer and the seller. On top of that, it also has details of the gun’s make, the model, type, serial number, and the caliber.

When selling a gun, you also need to divulge specific details of the purchase or the trade.

State the price of the gun in words then in numbers.

Include the date of the payment and the date by which the sale should be completed.

Note that: while you have to register the purchased car, you don’t have to register the gun.

Here’s the good news: wherever you’re in the state of Arkansas, you can get our bill of sale forms online at no cost.
